The development formerly known as Albemarle Place, now known as the Shops at Stonefield, could be turning shovels this spring. Developers Edens & Avant say the project's first phase will begin in spring and plans include a major movie complex and a Trader Joe's grocery story.
"From the beginning, a state-of-the-art cinema has been part of our strategic plan as we create the foundation for a signature shopping and entertainment experience," said Jessica Bruner, vice president of leasing for Edens & Avant, in a news release. "In addition to Regal Cinemas, we are extremely excited to introduce Trader Joe's to Charlottesville - a specialty grocer that we feel is a perfect fit for such a progressive community."
The Trader Joe's will be built relatively close to the new Whole Foods location, which is opening soon near Kmart on Hydraulic Road.
