11 Virginia farmers, agribusinesses receive grants

RICHMOND — The federal government is providing funding to 11 Virginia farmers and agribusinesses to expand production or markets, including one in Albemarle County.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced the Value-Added Producer Grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Friday.

Virginia Aqua-Farmers Network in Farmville, Rosemont of Virginia in LaCrosse and AgriBerry in Mechanicsville each received $300,000.Grayson Natural Foods in Independence received $280,735 and The Homeplace Vineyard in Chatham was awarded $208,571.

Grants for smaller amounts went to Virginia Wineworks in Albemarle, Virginia Wineries Association Cooperative in Richmond, Messicks Farm Market in Midland, Dairy Energy Inc. in Chatham, Springview Farm in Jetersville and Baker Inc. in Mount Jackson.
