l Jarrod Markley of Charlottesville, a financial representative with The Blue Ridge Group of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, was appointed college unit director in the Charlottesville and Lynchburg area. His responsibilities will include recruiting, training and mentoring financial representative interns while providing clients with the financial services solutions offered through Northwestern Mutual. Markley earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and has been with Northwestern Mutual since 2002.
l The Charlottesville Business Innovation Council announced its award honorees at the 11th annual CBIC Awards Gala in May. The winners are: David Chen, People’s Choice Navigator Award, sponsored by Barton Malow Co.; Electrawatch Inc., Rocket Award, sponsored by the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Authority; ecoMOD, Spotlight Award, sponsored by the UVa Office of Economic Development; PluroGen Therapeutics Inc., Breakthrough Award, sponsored by the Center for Innovative Technology; Virginia National Bank, Community Award, sponsored by McGuireWoods; Matt Shields, Red Apple Award and Technology in Education Grant, award sponsored by the UVa Office of the Vice President for Research and grant co-sponsored by ExploreLearning/Garris and Company; Arin Sime, CBIC Leadership Award, sponsored by CBIC Board of Directors.
l Michelle Keeley has joined the Travel Leaders of Charlottesville as a travel consultant. She most recently worked for Travel Leaders in the Minneapolis area and brings 17 years of travel experience to Travel Leaders. Keeley specializes in destination weddings and is a Certified Destination Specialist for Africa and Tahiti. She has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and on CNN.com and USA Today for her expertise.
