From lasers to laughs, Mark Nizer’s in balance

Mark Nizer will bring an evening of juggling feats, comedy and technology to the Paramount Theater starting 7 p.m. Saturday.

Among Nizer’s many awards are first place in the International Juggling Championships and being named Collegiate Entertainer of the Year and Comedy Entertainer of the Year.

He has performed in college, corporate and theater settings across the nation, and in the spring he presented three sold-out performances at the Harare International Festival of the Arts in Zimbabwe.

Nizer is known for innovative juggling feats, including juggling four lasers at 1,000 revolutions per minute.

He can throw five ping-pong balls 20 feet into the air — using only his mouth. He also has juggled unusual combinations of objects, including a running electric carving knife, a burning propane tank and a 16-pound bowling ball. He likes to keep the act fresh, so there’s no telling what he has planned for his hometown show.

He has been seen performing on MTV, HBO’s “Just for Laughs,’’ “The Arsenio Hall Show’’ and “Comic Strip Live.’’ His live shows have been at the Kennedy Center, the Lincoln Center, Walt Disney World, the Comedy Store and the Improv. Nizer enjoys teaching his craft to others, and at 6 p.m. each Wednesday folks can drop in the McIntire Room at Central Library for meetings of the Air Raid Juggling Club.
