The Corner, PVCC fill Lounge with homegrown talent
A popular radio program will take the stage to give fans some face time with local performers.
Piedmont Virginia Community College and radio station 106.1 the Corner will present Local Lounge, an evening of popular local bands, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the main stage of the V. Earl Dickinson Building.
There will be live performances and in-depth interviews with Trees on Fire, Birdlips and Lester Seal.
Brad Savage, host of the Corner’s “Corner Lounge,’’ will emcee the event, which will resemble the radio program.
Trees on Fire includes Justin Esposito on keyboards, violin, accordion, guitar and vocals; Rob Mezzanotte on guitar, saxophone, keys and vocals; Brian Wahl on bass; Paul Rosner on drums and vocals; and Blake Hunter on guitar and vocals. The band’s debut CD, “The Green Room,’’ was released in April 2007.
Birdlips features Cliff Usher on vocals and guitar and Lindsay Pitts on keyboard and vocals, who were drawn together by their love of psychedelic 1960s and 1970s music.
They released “Cardboard Wings,’’ their debut CD, in 2007.
Seal, a PVCC student, plays guitar and sings rock, jazz and soul.
Public television station WHTJ has partnered with the Corner and PVCC to videotape the event.
Tickets, $5, can be purchased at Plan 9 Music or Sidetracks, charged by phone using Visa or MasterCard at the PVCC box office at 961-5376 or bought in person at the box office starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
