Charlottesville police are investigating the shooting death of a juvenile early this morning and the wounding of a man at a home on 6-1/2 Street.

Preliminary reports say an 11-year-old boy was killed in the double-shooting in the 300 block of 6-1/2 Street, near the city’s Tonsler Park.

The juvenile was declared dead at the scene of the shooting and the other man, reportedly an adult, was being treated at the University of Virginia for gunshot wounds.

Police are still at the scene this morning. Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy J. Longo plans to release more information on the shooting at a noon press conference, officials said. Police declined to release more information until the press conference, citing the continuing investigation.
