The Charlottesville City Council has made several appointments to city boards and commissions.
Bill Emory has been appointed to sit on the seven-member Planning Commission. Emory, a photographer and Woolen Mills resident, will replace Hosea Mitchell, who was appointed in October 2006 and participated in his final commission meeting last week. Emory will begin his four-year term Sept. 1.
Also, Gowher Rizvi was appointed to Charlottesville’s Sister City Commission.
Rizvi is the director of the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard University but recently was appointed vice provost for international programs at the University of Virginia, a position that begins Sept. 1.
Various other city boards and commissions have openings, including the Charlottesville-Albemarle Commission on Children and Families, the Charlottesville Police Advisory Panel, JAUNT, the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library Board and the Social Services Advisory Board.
Applications can be found online at http://www.charlottesvillle.org by clicking on “Apply for Boards and Commissions” under the “I Want To” tab. The application deadline is Sept. 11. All members are appointed by the City Council.
