Slow-moving train hits woman in Crozet
A woman was hit by a train Friday morning in Crozet but survived.
Around 5:45 a.m., Albemarle County police officers responded to the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Lanetown Road for a report of a pedestrian hit by a slow-moving train. According to police, the woman was standing on the track when she was hit.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Gale Wilson, the vice president of operations of the Buckingham Branch Railroad Co., said the train that hit the woman was an empty CSX-owned coal train that was returning to Clifton Fords after unloading its cargo at ports. The accident did not take place at a railroad crossing, Wilson said, and there isn’t any pedestrian access to the area.
Wilson said his company is waiting to get detailed reports from Albemarle police and CSX, which he said could take days or weeks. The company does not expect to release the victim’s name.
The accident closed a portion of the line temporarily. Wilson said an average of 7.5 empty trains travel those tracks each day.
It was unclear exactly how fast the train was traveling when the incident occurred.

With all concern for the woman hit -perhaps the headline should read “Slow-moving train hits trespasser in Crozet”. Please know the train tracks anywhere, even downtown C’ville, are not a shortcut or place to play. Too many people die each year on the tracks where they should not be. They need to think of the train crew that see them hit and how does that affect them.
The first 7 trains are easy to miss but the last .5 train is very deceiving. It looks farther away then it is.
How does anyone get hit by a train and survive!?
HOW does one get hit by one of those trains?! An easy jog will enable you to out-run them.
