Buckingham attack ruled a hoax
A reported Buckingham County home invasion last week that resulted in a stabbing was a hoax and the stab-wound self-inflicted by the woman who reported the incident, according to Sheriff William G. Kidd, Jr.
In a press release, Kidd said the report that had door-to-door sales people forcing their way into a home and stabbing a woman in an apparent theft attempt was staged.
“Officers followed every lead and questioned several suspects and determined that they could not have possibly been involved in the crime,“ Kidd said. “Evidence at the scene did not correspond with the alleged victim’s statement.“
Kidd said Sheriff’s Capt. John M. Dixon II, Investigator Chris Davis and Deputy Greg Sherwood investigated the case. He said the woman who reported the assault later admitted to investigators that she staged the incident. She faces charges of giving a false report to police officials, he said.
“Hopefully, the widespread hysteria caused by this “prank” will be abated,“ Kidd said. “Citizens should still remember the advice of their parents not to let just anyone into their homes, but in this case, strangers were not to blame.“
