Fluvanna County authorities are searching for a man who disappeared Wednesday after leaving his home on a bicycle.

Stuart Mowbray Knapp, 43, left his home at Lake Monticello on his bike at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and has not been heard from since, investigators said Friday.

He is described as 6 feet tall and approximately 190 pounds with hazel eyes and blond hair.

Anyone who has seen Knapp is asked to contact Lt. David R. Wells at the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office by calling 589-8211.

Knapp’s disappearance follows that of Albemarle County resident Michael Comer. Comer went missing July 1, and officials quickly mounted a search near Comer’s Wintergreen vacation home, where his car was found with the keys inside, along with his cell phone.

Investigators abandoned the search after concluding that there were no signs of Comer or of foul play. Nelson’s sheriff, David Brooks, has since said he suspects Comer may have left of his own volition and may not want to be found.

On the day he went missing, Comer had been scheduled to meet with Glenmore Community Association officials after an auditor raised questions about some of the association’s financial transactions.

Comer had served as treasurer for the group prior to his disappearance. Officials subsequently removed him from that post.

At the time of his disappearance, Comer was the president of Glenmore Country Club, a privately owned club east of Shadwell, and was the project manager for Glenmore Associates, the developer of the Glenmore community and other commercial projects.

Sheriff Brooks was not immediately available for comment this afternoon.
