The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office believes a 54-year-old woman shot and killed her husband Thursday morning as he slept and then committed suicide.

Co-workers of Karl Alan Davis called authorities Thursday after he failed to show for work, according to Lt. David Wells with the Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived at the house, they found Karl Davis, 50, and his wife, Carrie Larue Davis, both dead of gunshot wounds, Wells said.

Investigators believe that sometime Thursday morning Carrie Davis shot her husband twice while he slept and then killed herself, Wells said. There was no sign of a struggle.

The Sheriff’s Office has closed the investigation, but will await the autopsy report before closing the case, Wells said.
