Area road projects to receive stimulus funds

Twenty-two road and transit projects in the Charlot-tesville region will receive more than $16.7 million in federal economic stimulus funding.
U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Ivy, announced Tuesday that the projects have been approved to draw their share of the $787 billion economic stimulus package approved earlier this year.

Albemarle County will receive $6.79 million to repave Route 20, U.S. 29, Route 53 and U.S. 250. The paving restoration projects will cover 42 miles overall.
Paving of part of U.S. 33 is also included.
The Charlottesville Transit Service will receive $1.3 million to pay for two replacement buses, spare parts for passenger shelters, miscellaneous equipment and bike racks.
Buckingham County will receive funding for four bridge projects. It will receive: $1.3 million for a New Store Road bridge over Willis River; $299,600 for a Union Church Road bridge over Frisbee Creek; $392,000 for a Slate Hill Road bridge over Austin’s Creek; and $301,000 for a Slate Hill Road bridge over Hunt Creek.
Nelson County will receive funding for 16 bridge projects. These include: replacement of two bridges on Rockfish River Road (over two branches of the Rockfish River); as well as bridges on Starvale Lane, Myndus Road, Norwood Road, Dutch Creek Lane, Aerial Drive, Findlay Gap Road, Findlay Gap Drive, Norwood Road, Will’s Lane, Colleen Road, Variety Mills Road, Pharsalia Road, Cedar Creek Road and Battery Hill Lane.

Perriello announced that his district, which stretches from the Charlottesville area to Southside Virginia, is receiving a total of $37 million in stimulus funding for transportation projects.
Along with the transportation projects, the Charlottesville region is receiving millions from the economic stimulus package to fund schools, law enforcement and energy efficiency projects.
