Neff’s attack on Bell misguided

Many years ago there was a commercial: “Where’s the beef?” As an independent voter in Albemarle, I am still waiting.
In “Ex-IBM exec plans challenge to delegate” (The Daily Progress, March 18), it is reported: “[Cynthia] Neff had nice things to say about [incumbent opponent Rob] Bell, whom she called ‘gracious to a fault.’ But, she said, the lawmaker is part of a GOP majority that has blocked action on crucial issues.
“‘He’s worked hard,’ she said. ‘But he’s had seven years down there [in Richmond]. It’s time for a change.’ ”
I just got Ms. Neff’s latest mailing, and it will ensure that I will vote for Rob Bell.
While I will admit the attack was very interesting, it was so wrong on so many levels that I believe that who ever approved it has lost her mind.
Change in government is not always good if you are only changing horses and not direction.
I supported Jim Webb for U.S. Senate before people thought he had a chance to win, and I voted for Mark Warner over Jim Gilmore for Senate. Some of my right-leaning friends faulted me for this, just as my left-leaning friends could not understand why I was upset that Virgil Goode was voted out of office (I believe that when Tom Perriello took office, we all lost).
Either party, when not in power or control of a particular office, can cry “we need to change,” but unless it can prove why, then change for the sake of change is not productive.
