Team great this year, but wait ...

Although the University of Virginia baseball team was eliminated in the College World Series, team members still have much of which to be proud. And those of us in Charlottesville can be proud of them, too. They had an exceptional season and post season.

It is especially appropriate that Coach Brian O’Connor was selected as the coach of the year.

Much of the success of the baseball program can be attributed to Coach O’Connor’s outstanding record in recruiting players. All of the members of the current team were recruited by Coach O’Connor, but probably no group is a better tribute to him than the freshman team members. Freshmen played a vital role in the team’s success.

Coach O’Connor is an effective recruiter, in part, because he is an excellent coach. And, he is an excellent coach because, above all, he is a fine gentleman.

UVa is fortunate to have him.

This year was good, but just wait until next year!
