UVa’s Zeglinski granted medical redshirt; Soroye waits

Sammy Zeglinski is a freshman again. Whether Tunji Soroye will be back for another senior year, well, that’s still up in the air.
On Wednesday, the Daily Progress learned that as expected, Zeglinski’s, medical redshirt was officially granted.
Soroye, however, is still awaiting word on his. The
6-foot-11 Nigerian must also come up with a way to pay for his tuition since Virginia, as has been   previously reported, is at the
13-scholarship limit.
As a senior, Soroye played in just two games last season after battling knee and back injuries. His return to the team could be a nice bonus.
Coach Dave Leitao envisions Soroye serving as a mentor to incoming freshmen John Brandenburg and Assane Sene.
Soroye, when healthy, could also provide an interior defensive presence for a team that finished dead last in the ACC in shotblocking.
Zeglinski, who has spent the last several months rehabilitating his ankle, is rounding into shape. Last month, he told the Daily Progress that he was at about 90 percent.
The Philadelphia native missed almost all of last season after undergoing two ankle surgeries.
The 20-year-old Zeglinski, who attended the same high school as former Virginia guard Sean Singletary, is expected to contend for the starting point-guard spot.
