UVa’s Brown removed from program

The mass team entrance at the Cavalier Inn on Sunday did not include cornerback Mike Brown.
Apparently, that will not change.
On the eve of training camp’s opening practice, the University of Virginia
issued a short press release stating that Brown was “no longer a member of the Cavalier football team.”
According to a spokesperson at the university, Virginia coach Al Groh would not comment on the matter.
The executor of the decision was not given, whether it was Groh or an athletic department official, and a reason for the departure was not mentioned, but Brown’s legal troubles are considered the culprit.
During his career at Virginia, Brown was arrested three times and has a pair of upcoming court dates. On Aug. 18, the Newark, N.J., native is scheduled appear in Charlottesville General District Court on felony charges of grand larceny, possession of stolen property with intent to sell and altering serial numbers.
On Sept. 19, Brown is scheduled to appear in court again on charges of driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a blood/breath test, a pair of misdemeanors.
After playing in 12 games in both 2005 and 2006, Brown was given a medical redshirt last season after tearing his ACL during a voluntary summer workout. Brown, who has two years of eligibility remaining, registered 31 career tackles and averaged 9.6 yards on 14 career punt returns.
Brown’s official departure leaves junior Vic Hall and sophomore Ras-I Dowling, as expected, as the favorites to start the season opener against Southern California at cornerback.
Today’s practice, which is closed to the public, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
