Blue Ridge rolls
After a tough weekend, Blue Ridge got back to its winning ways by defeating Liberty Christian in the VIC Division I semifinals, 62-31.
“We beat them twice by 30, but lost to them on Saturday after losing to Benedictine on Friday,” said Barons coach Bill Ramsey. “We were definitely focused. ... We needed to get our confidence back.”
A.J. Williams was the game’s top scorer with 14 points. Scott Williams chipped in 10 points.
The Barons will travel to Lynchburg for the VIC championship and face a familiar foe in Miller. The Barons and Mavericks split the season series.
Orange boys advance to region final
The Orange County boys basketball team survived its trip up to Broad Run, winning its Region II Division 4 semifinal game, 65-59.
Quintin Hunter led the way for the Hornets with 28 points.
“He was due,” Orange coach Keyode Rogers said. “He always plays to his full extent, and he had some rough games recently. But when D.J. Brown got in foul trouble in the third quarter, I looked at Quintin’s eyes, and didn’t need to say anything. He put us on his neck.”
The victory means that Orange has secured a bid in the Group AA, Division 4 state tournament.
The Hornets will face a familiar opponent in the final — Charlottesville. It will be the fourth meeting between the two teams. Charlottesville took the two regular season meetings, but Orange knocked out the Black Knights in the Jefferson District semifinals.
In other local action, the Dominion boys beat William Monroe 40-38. The Dragons girls lost 65-40 to Freedom.
