l Locallectual.com, a national Web site based in Charlottesville, features the largest Virginia directory of local producers and businesses with more than 1,000 listings. The site was recently featured by DailyCandy.com for a “Today” show segment titled “Nine Web sites That Can Make Your Life Easier.” The site assists residents in locating local producers of a variety of products.

l Fifth Season Gardening will open its fifth location and first outside of North Carolina on Nov. 2 on Preston Avenue in Charlottesville. The shop specializes in hydroponics, organic gardening and beer- and wine-making supplies and offers products and information to customers who take a do-it-yourself approach to life.

l Thomson Reuters announced that the Royal Society of Chemistry, one of the largest publishers of chemical science information in the world, has chosen ScholarOne Manuscripts of Charlottesville to manage submission and peer review for 26 of its journals. The decision follows the RSC’s use of ScholarOne Manuscripts for five journals the past several months and the successful completion of a pilot project that resulted in positive author, reviewer and editorial staff feedback.
