l The Orange Downtown Alliance has launched a community-embracing Web site, http://www.orangedowntownalliance.org, that will serve as a focal point for much of the information businesses and visitors utilize daily. The site will include special membership features such as page sponsorships, online subscription applications, upcoming events, important local information and links to partnering organizations.

l VMDO Architects of Charlottesville was presented a 2009 Virginia Green Innovation Award by the Virginia Sustainable Building Network. VMDO was honored under the Institutional Project - K12 category - for Poquoson Elementary School. Each year VSBN members nominate green businesses, organizations, design firms and community programs that represent the best green projects or programs in Virginia.

l Martin Horn Construction of Charlottesville has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s prestigious ENERGY STAR, the national symbol for superior energy efficiency and environmental protection. This signifies that energy performance at the company’s office building rates in the top 25 percent of facilities nationwide. Commercial buildings that earn the ENERGY STAR use an average of 40 percent less energy than typical buildings and release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
