l Garrett Smith, an attorney with the law firm of MichieHamlett in Charlottesville, was named to the Monticello Area Community Action Agency board of directors. Smith is serving a five-year term on the MACAA board, which is composed of agency constituents, government appointees and private citizens.

l The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau selected Lauren Whitaker as its new tourism sales manager. She will generate business for the destination through the group and meetings markets, including tour operators, travel agents, meeting planners, AAA offices and other related markets.

l Mildred Dunnivan of Barboursville attended the Celebrating Home Rally 2009 conference in Nashville, Tenn. Dunnivan is a designer for Celebrating Home, the nation’s largest direct selling home décor company.

l John W. Zunka and Richard E. Carter of Zunka, Milnor, Carter & Inigo Ltd. were named Super Lawyers 2009 by Law and Politics magazine, which recognizes outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

l CB Richard Ellis announced that Eddie Karoliussen’s management portfolio has expanded to more than 1 million square feet. The addition of the North Run Business Park in Richmond increased his management properties’ square footage to more than 1 million. Karoliussen joined CB Richard Ellis is 2007 and has more than seven years of experience in the commercial real estate industry.

l Edward B. Lowry, an attorney with the law firm MichieHamlett, was a featured speaker at the Eagle International Associates Fall 2009 Seminar held in New York. His presentation, “Evaluating and Preparing a Plaintiff’s Commercial Litigation Case,” focused on pursuing claims against brokers and investment advisers. Lowry has been with the firm since he began practicing law in 1971 and handles a wide variety of commercial transactions and negotiations.

l Morris G. Sahr of Charlottesville was included in the 2009 and 2010 editions of Marquis Who’s Who in Business and Finance and Who’s Who in America. He was the founder and first president of the International Association for Financial Planning in Washington and is a past recipient of Money magazine’s Top 200 Planners in the USA. Sahr is a certified financial planner and president of Deposit Management Services Inc.
