l The Jefferson-Madison Regional Library appointed David Plunkett as circulation manager at Central Library. Plunkett has been with the library since 2002 and became branch manager at Gordon Avenue in 2003. Meredith Dickens, formerly the Young Adult librarian at Crozet Library, was promoted to branch manager at the Gordon Avenue location. Plunkett and Dickens are graduates of Charlottesville High School.

l University of Virginia School of Medicine Vice President and Dean Steven T. DeKosky MD was appointed to the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine by Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius. DeKosky is an expert in Alzheimer’s Disease research.

 

l The City of Charlottesville has announced City Council appointments to area boards and commissions. Henry Fairfax Ayres was appointed and William Adams and Frederick Wolf were reappointed to the Board of Architectural Review; Gregory Edwards and Jeffrey Uphoff were reappointed to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Commission; Gloria Maria Rockhold was appointed to the Dialogue on Race Steering Committee; Susan Pleiss and Anthony Waterfield were appointed to the Housing Advisory Committee; Phillip Jones was appointed to JAUNT; Byron Brown was appointed and Jennifer McKeever was reappointed to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee; April Ristau was appointed to the Personnel Appeals Board; James Halfaday was appointed and Jean Chase and John A. Racine were reappointed to the Police Advisory Panel; Mark Meier was appointed to and Jeffrey Greer’s term has been extended to the Rivanna Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

 

l The Educational Law Association presented R. Craig Wood the 2009 M.A. McGhehey award in recognition of outstanding service in and contributions to the field of education law. Wood is a partner at McGuire Woods’ Charlottesville office and was recently named a “Super Lawyer” for labor and employment law by Corporate Counsel magazine.
