—The Rivanna Conservation Society elected its 2009-10 officers and board members at its annual meeting. They are Angus Murdoch, president; Tatyanna Patten, vice president; Jim Cato, treasurer; Tim SanJule, secretary; and Morgan Butler, Daniel Krasnegor, Leon Szeptycki and Erik Wilke, board members.

—Bradley Eppard and Jeffrey Eppard of Piedmont Concrete Contractors received their ACI Concrete Flatwork Finisher and Technician certificates. Certification recognizes craftsmen who have significant concrete experience and have demonstrated the ability to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect the concrete flatwork through hands-on and written examinations.

—Tammy Poole, a public affairs communication specialist at State Farm Insurance in Albemarle County, won third place in the National Federation of Press Women competition for Writing for the Web — Web content written for corporate or for-profit organization sites. The story featured two State Farm employees becoming U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony at Monticello. Poole is the secretary and the Freedom of Information chairwoman for the Virginia Press Women organization.
