Evening explores Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Central and Western Virginia Chapter, the Paramount Theater and the University of Virginia School of Medicine will team up for a film screening and discussion to help shed light on Alzheimer’s disease and the research being done to help patients and their families.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday with brain-healthy hors d’oeuvres before the screening at 7 p.m.

An abbreviated screening from the HBO series “The Alzheimer’s Project” will be shown, followed by a discussion led by Sue Friedman, Alzheimer’s Association chapter president and CEO, with panelists Dr. Steven T. DeKosky, vice president and dean of the UVa School of Medicine; Dr. David Geldmacher, associate professor of neurology at UVa;  and Ward Campbell, a retired telecommunications executive and a caregiver.

HBO’s four-part series, which premiered on May 10, includes “The Memory Loss Tapes,” “Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am? with Maria Shriver,” “Momentum in Science, Parts 1 and 2” and “Caregivers.” Learn more about Alzheimer’s at http://www.alz.org/cwva.
