Lions bring old favorites to Paramount stage
From staff reports
Haven’t heard Wayne Gentry perform in a while? Wondering what the Houserockers have been doing since the band’s music made your prom one of your treasured memories?
The folks at the Charlottesville Host Lions Club feel the same way. That’s why the organization is bringing back some popular groups from the past for tonight’s show at the Paramount Theater.
And to make a comprehensive musical evening of it, the Lions decided to invite quite a few bands from the present, including the Chris Winter Band and the Bennie Dodd Band.
Be sure to be in your seat by 7 p.m. so you can hear Wilfred “88 Keys” Wilson on piano.
When Charlottesville Municipal Band members were asked if they’d like to pitch in and play a song, they signed up to play several.
Michael Morris and the Transformed will add gospel sounds to the mix. Blue Country Band, Woody Berry and Blue Country Band will be in the spotlight, too.
And musicians won’t be the only performers in the hometown show. There will be plenty of dancing. Look for Skyline Country Cloggers, Hi-Horse Cloggers and the Terry Dean Dancers.
If you’re hungry, the Lionesses will be selling popcorn and sodas for $1.
Ticket and refreshment proceeds will help the Lions come to the rescue when folks need glasses, hearing aids and other devices to make life easier. The economy has made it tougher to get the job done, because more people are turning to the Lions for help in hard times.
So coming to the concert will give folks a chance to sit back and relax, give homegrown performers a hand — and give a neighbor a hand.
