Make plans for an Uppity farewell show

The members of Saffire — the Uppity Blues Women will bring their farewell tour to Culpeper this weekend.
The well-known acoustic blues trio will perform 7 p.m. Saturday at the Daniel Center at Germanna Community College in Culpeper.
Ann Rabson is pianist, guitarist and vocalist. Gaye Adegbalola adds guitar, harmonica and vocals. Andra Faye is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who brings fiddle, acoustic bass, mandolin and guitar to the mix.
The group is marking 25 years of playing acoustic blues and supporting its latest album, “Havin’ the Last Word.” After a quarter of a century as a group, the individual members will be moving on to ther own solo projects.
Faye became a full-time member in 1992 after serving as a guest performer on the 1992 “BroadCasting” album. Earlene Lewis was the band’s original bassist.
A new documentary film on Saffire, “Hot Flash,” will be available on iTunes and will be at some film festivals.
The group has released nine recordings. Saffire’s 1991 debut album on the Alligator Records label, “Hot Flash,” was one of the label’s biggest-selling albums ever.
Mark your calendars: The group plans a farewell show March 27 at Gravity Lounge for its Charlottesville fans.
Tickets for Saturday’s Culpeper concert are $15, $5 for Germanna faculty and staff members and $3 for students.
