Barefoot Puppet Theatre will present “Trickster Tales” at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carysbrook Performing Arts Center.

The show, presented by Fluvanna Arts Council, will follow Anansi the Spider through two folk tales from the Beluba and Ashanti cultures.

Appearing with Anansi will be Elephant, Hippo, Namibi the Python, Osebo the Leopard, a swarm of hornets and the angry Sky-God.

There will be colorful scenery and an 11-foot stage for rod and hand puppets.

Listen for plenty of puns.

Barefoot Puppet Theatre has been presenting original works since 1997, when founder and director Heidi Rugg began building puppet shows in her Richmond basement.

Her first show was designed to fit into the back of a Volkswagen Golf.

The troupe tours nationally, performing at libraries, schools and theaters, and creates new works for children and their families.

In 2005, the group won a UNIMA Citation of Excellence, the highest distinction in North American puppetry.

Tickets are $10, $5 for children. For information, call 842-1333.
