Three people have been charged with murder after a man shot in a moving minivan last week died over the weekend.
Shawn Anthony Luck, 29, of Palmyra, died Saturday after being shot inside the van, which later ran into a chain-link fence. Luck was rushed to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he spent five days in intensive care.
Facing murder charges in connection with Luck’s death are Curtis Tyrell Montague, 28, of Richmond; Jada Marie Dubrose Dickerson, 27, of Albemarle County; and Candace Marie Williams, 22, of Charlottesville. Montague also faces a charge of possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony in connection with the shooting.
The trio also faces charges in an armed robbery that occurred earlier April 8, police said. From that incident, they are charged with robbery, abduction, use of a firearm in a robbery and use of a gun in an abduction. Police released no additional information on the robbery but indicated that it was unrelated to the shooting.
The shooting came to light when the speeding minivan lost control going around a corner on Fairview Avenue in Charlottesville. After the van ran into a fence, police found Luck shot and seriously wounded and another man also shot. A woman in the van was not shot but suffered a minor ankle injury.
Police did not say whether Montague, Dickerson or Williams were in the van when it crashed or whether Montague was the second man shot in the van. Neither did they say what connection the three may have had with Luck or why the shootings took place.
Police found a handgun outside the van, buried in mulch.
According to Virginia court records, Montague has been found guilty of disorderly conduct in Henrico County in 2005 and received a 12-month sentence in Richmond for accessory to cocaine possession in 2006.
Records show that Williams was found guilty in Charlottesville of making false statements for welfare purposes and fraud of less than $200 in March.

It’s tragic that there are people in our society that have chosen the path of laziness and would rather take by force the things they want then to apply themselves and work for it. What is even sadder is the position these abusers put their parents in. I speak on behalf of one of the girl’s fathers, because I know he is a hard working man constantly shadowed, both emotionally and financially by his daughters many strikes against society over the years. My heart goes out to parents who have ungrateful and disrespecting children.
