Police have identified the woman who died in a wreck at Plank Road and U.S. 29 southbound Thursday as Kathryn Russell, 53, of North Garden.

Russell pulled out in a 1989 Dodge pickup to try to cross 29 and was hit by a van, according to a news release from Albemarle County police Sgt. Jerry Utz.

“It does not appear that Russell was wearing a seatbelt, and she was ejected from the vehicle,” Utz wrote. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man and a youngster were extricated from the van and taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Alcohol and speed are not suspected as factors in the crash, according to Utz.

The crash also released chickens, which were in a crate in the back of Russell’s truck. Albemarle County animal control officers responded to collect them.
