Ben & Jerry’s offers ice cream for blood

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream wants to make a trade with local residents: a pint of ice cream for a pint of blood.

A blood drive by the Virginia Blood Services will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ben & Jerry’s at the Barracks Road Shopping Center, 1112 Emmet St. North in Charlottesville. Donated blood will help patients in Charlottesville-area hospitals.

All donors will receive a pint of ice cream of their choice, along with a limited edition “Blood: Life’s Stimulus Package” T-shirt. As an extra incentive, the blood drive will be held as part of Ben & Jerry’s annual Free Cone Day.

Walk-ins are welcomed.

That’s a great cause, but sure is a gross mental image.
