A man was shot in the arm shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday on the 900 block of Rives Street, according to Charlottesville police.

The victim, a 19-year-old Charlottesville resident, told police that a black Ford sport utility vehicle pulled up beside him as he was walking along Rives Street, Charlottesville police Lt. Gary Pleasants said.

The victim told police someone started shouting, and then shooting, at him, Pleasants said.

The man reported hearing six or seven shots and was wounded once in the right tricep, the lieutenant said.

The victim was treated and released at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Pleasants said.
