Charlottesville is preparing to unveil the winners of its competition to design a clock honoring its relationship with its sister cities.

Residents this Saturday are invited to view the winning entries, which were submitted to the city government, of the Sister Cities Clock Design competition.

The three cities are Besancon, France; Pleven, Bulgaria; and Poggio a Caiano, Italy. The City Council also recently voted to add Winneba, Ghana, as a sister city, though that was not the case at the start of the clock competition.

The clock may be installed on the Downtown Mall, if the city accepts the winner selected by the contest jury. The jury’s choice for the winning entry will be awarded a cash prize of $1,500, whether or not the clock is constructed. Second prize is $1,000 and third prize is $500.

Residents can also vote for the People’s Choice clock at the event, which will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in CitySpace. CitySpace is located at 100 Fifth St. N.E. on the Downtown Mall.

AMAZING! Every citizen should call for the immediate removal from office of anyone and everyone connected with this project. Until we, as citizens, require some level of performance from our elected officials, we will continue to hear the cry of the need for increased tax levels while the elected officials continue to live in thier dream world and continue to speend money they do not have. Revolt today! Do not allow one addition penny to be wasted on this insane project. By the way, our family continues to grow as I see we now have four sister cities! Stupid is as stupid does.
