City, county giving rain barrel rebates

» 1 Comment | Post a Comment

Charlottesville and Albemarle are giving a $30 rebate for those who purchase new rain barrels, which hold water and are seen as an environmental conservation measure to reduce consumption and runoff.

Generally sized between 50 and 60 gallons, a rain barrel is a container connected to a downspout on a home, office or garage. Its purpose is to capture some of the precipitation that lands on the roof and store it for future use.

Up to two rebates can be used per address, and participants can purchase barrels from any vendor as long as a receipt is shown.

Fifty-gallon rain barrels typically retail for $70 and up, with most selling for $100 or more.

This staunch liberal from the White Hall district sees another form of elitism at its “finest” and is this time appalled by the waste in the form of $30.00 rebates for those who buy rainbarrels to save water.  Do those who allow this taxpayers waste really belief that those who struggle to make ends meet have the resources to even buy a water barrel? Or do you think they spend their money on food for their children?  This rebate only benefits people who have enough or more than enough resources to live comfortably, like myself, and truly, I would never expect such rebate.
