Employees of retail and hospitality-related businesses are getting first crack at becoming “certified tourism ambassadors” under an education program sponsored by the national Journey Through Hallowed Ground National Heritage Area Partnership.

The partnership provides education and opportunities to people in the tourism industry along the federally recognized heritage area that stretches from Gettysburg to Monticello.

According to the heritage partnership, studies show that visitors stay longer and spend more money if they “receive positive and knowledgeable customer service” that includes information on local historical sites and events.

Training for ambassadors begins Nov. 24 with 1 p.m. registration at the Orange Community Building in the town of Orange. The cost of the program is $49. For more information, call (540) 672-2540.
