Lightning strike started Crozet fire

A bolt of lightning was responsible for a fire Saturday that seriously damaged the Crozet trailer where a volunteer firefighter lived.
Crozet Fire Chief Charles Baber said crews were called around 5 p.m. Saturday to Lot 41 on Claudia Street in the Crozet Mobile Village park. County fire investigator Elie Jones said the fire was caused by a lightning strike near an electrical panel box. The 1969 trailer is not considered habitable.
Baber confirmed that a Crozet volunteer firefighter lived in the trailer with his family, but he would not reveal whom. Jones said six people were in the trailer at the time of the fire, but no one was injured.
Baber said while lightning strikes are a common cause of structure fires, he hasn’t seen many trailers hit by lightning.
Crews from Charlottesville, North Garden and Earlysville also responded to the fire.
