The Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia will host a major economic conference in September that will address the fast-changing global marketplace.

The conference, to be held Sept. 7-9, will feature former top financial officials from countries such as the United States, China, India, France, Germany, Spain, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Moderated by former U.S. Treasury Secretary John W. Snow, the conference will examine the rise of sovereign wealth funds, challenges posed by emerging nations, the subprime crisis and credit crunch, possible reforms of the G7, G8 and International Monetary Fund, and much more.

The conference, titled “The New Financial Architecture: A Global Summit,” was announced Thursday afternoon at a forum featuring Snow and Gerald L. Baliles, a former Virginia governor and director of the Miller Center.

“The conference will involve some of the world’s top financial leaders,” Baliles said.

Former finance officials were invited, Baliles said, in an attempt to encourage candid discussion.

“We believe the conversation will be frank and unfettered,” he said.
