Scottsville will mark the 100th birthday of former longtime mayor A. Raymond Thacker on Sunday.

At the time of his departure from politics in 1996, Thacker had served as Scottsville’s mayor for 30 years and was the longest serving mayor in Virginia.

During Thacker’s tenure, he secured federal funds to build a levee that protects the town from floods. And, in 1994, he successfully lobbied Albemarle County to add the annexation of 800 acres to the town.

Thacker’s party will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Old Scottsville High School auditorium.
