Springsteen concert to benefit food bank
The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network will be the charitable beneficiary of Bruce Springsteen’s April 30 concert at the John Paul Jones Arena.
The food bank will benefit from the sale of four concert tickets donated by Spring-steen to be auctioned online by Charity Folks, a marketplace for nonprofit fundraising, corporate cause-marketing campaigns and celebrity-driven initiatives. The auction is open for bids and can be found at http://www.brafb.org or http://www.charityfolks.com/bruce.
Anybody can contribute to Springsteen’s hunger-fighting cause by donating online to the “Bruce Springsteen: Serving Up Magic” virtual food drive at http://www.brafb.org. That drive begins Monday and will continue through May 3.
The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network also announced Tuesday that it has received a $100,000 grant to combat hunger in Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.
The grant will be used for Operation Angel Food, a joint effort of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network, Head Start and the Virginia Preschool Initiative to ensure that children between the ages of 3 and 5 have access to nutritious foods.
The grant was made possible by the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund. The fund worked with FOX and “American Idol” to present “Idol Gives Back,” which aired in April 2007, to raise awareness and funds for organizations that provide resources for young people in extreme poverty in the United States and Africa.
