The Chronicle of Higher Education has listed the University of Virginia’s College at Wise as one of the nation’s “Great Colleges to Work For.”

The distinction came in the Chronicle’s July 18 edition. This is the first time the publication has conducted the survey.

Colleges and universities were put into three categories, determined by the size of their workforce. UVa-Wise was ranked in the smallest category, schools with fewer than 500 employees. Schools in the largest category have 2,500 or more employees.

The survey ranked UVa-Wise in four of 27 categories, recognizing the school for its policies on vacation or paid time off, health insurance, disability insurance and life insurance.

Austin College, a four-year liberal arts school in Sherman, Texas, also listed in the smallest group of schools, was ranked in the most categories, 18. Regent University in Virginia Beach ranked in 15 categories and Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., ranked in 14 categories.

The Chronicle’s rankings are based on a survey of more than 15,000 faculty, administrators and staff members from 89 colleges and universities nationwide.
