A Virginia Department of Forestry employee remained in intensive care Sunday after suffering upper-body burns while fighting a brush fire a day earlier in Buckingham County.
The forestry official, who has not been identified, was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center on Saturday. There had been no change in the injured person’s status by Sunday afternoon, said Kevin Flippen of Buckingham emergency services.
Also in connection with the sizable brush fire, two other firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire covered an estimated 600 acres near routes 622 and 676. It was brought under control after about nine hours. Rain Saturday night and Sunday morning helped extinguish the blaze, Flippen said.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
