Grand jury to hear case of man shot by deputy

A Ruckersville man who was shot by a Greene County deputy during an incident May 13 soon will have his case heard by a grand jury.

A judge certified charges against Jonithan Tracy Mullins on Wednesday in Greene General District Court. Mullins, 33, had been charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempted capital murder.

Around 5:45 p.m. May 13, deputies responded to the 11000 block of Spotswood Trail for a report of a man shooting a gun from a porch. Authorities said the man shot at nearby homes, but eventually was shot in the arm by a deputy when he raised his weapon and pointed it at the officer despite warnings that he should drop his gun.Mullins was arrested after his release from the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he was treated for his non-life-threatening injury.
