Authorities have identified the man who died after being shocked Wednesday afternoon while on a ladder painting the metal roof of a house.
Johnie Edward Banks, of Arvonia, reportedly was standing on an aluminum ladder painting the roof of 224 Nalle St., off Cherry Avenue, when the incident occurred. Police said the 49-year-old man apparently was applying paint to the roof with a roller attached to a long pole when the pole touched electrical wires and he was shocked and fell.
He died late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
Banks, who worked for a local painting company, was “either electrocuted or died in the fall from the ladder,” said Ric Barrick, city spokesman.
The disruption of electricity apparently caused a small fire in a different portion of the building, according to Charlottesville Fire Battalion Chief Dave Hartman. That fire was quickly extinguished.
No one else was hurt in the incident, officials said.
