New details in double shooting released

Charlottesville police have released new details in a double shooting Thursday night by a masked assailant.

An 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were both shot at 7:24 p.m. while sitting in a friend’s car parked at the Blue Ridge Commons apartment complex on Prospect Avenue.

The victims, both residents of Albemarle County, suffered non-life threatening wounds. They drove themselves to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Police said the victims had only a limited description of the shooter, who was described as a black male wearing some type of covering over his face.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to call CrimeStoppers at 977-4000.
