The arrest of Slade Woodson, 19, of Afton, in connection with two Waynesboro shootings early Thursday morning came as no surprise to Jill Tice, 43 ,whose home was struck by two bullets in one of the incidents.
“This has been brewing for a while,” Tice said.
The Dupont Community Credit Union building on Lucy Lane and a repossessed car in its parking lot were also shot. No one was injured in either incident.
Tice said her son had a falling out with Woodson, a high school friend, after he was questioned in 2006 about a series of automobile thefts and arson incidents in Albemarle County. Woodson was later convicted of the crimes and spent six months in jail.
“He didn’t want to tell on the boy, because he felt sorry for Slade, but then they told him he could be charged as an accessory if he didn’t talk,” Tice said.
About 8 months ago, Woodson began coming to Tice’s residence on North Commerce Avenue, “running around our house and up and down the street, hollering and leaving skid marks in the road,” she said.
Police confirmed that there was a dispute between “an occupant” of the house and Woodson. In September 2007, Waynesboro police arrested Woodson for driving under the influence after receiving a 911 complaint about a vehicle spinning tires and driving recklessly on Tice’s block, Sgt. Kelly Walker said.
Woodson is also a suspect in a string of shootings on Interstate 64 that struck five occupied vehicles and caused minor injuries to two people early Thursday morning. An unoccupied VDOT dump truck was also shot.
