Woman stabbed in home invasion
A Buckingham County woman reported being attacked by two people in her home Thursday morning.
At about 10 a.m., the two people went to the victim’s house, in the 4000 block of Warminister Church Road, and attempted to sell her household goods, according to the Buckingham Sheriff’s Office.
The pair left but returned a short time later, forced their way into the home and stabbed the woman, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The victim was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment.
The Sheriff’s Office declined to provide further details of the assault.
The incident is reminiscent of recent reports of people approaching homeowners in Albemarle and Greene counties.
The suspicious homeowners said that the people told them they were college students selling dishwashing liquid to raise funds.
It appears, however, that those incidents could have been legitimate, as a Kirby vacuum franchise recently began operating in Albemarle, said Lt. Todd Hopwood of the Albemarle police.
He said county police cited several of the Kirby salespeople Wednesday for soliciting without a permit. Subsequently, those salespeople filed the proper paperwork.
Hopwood warned that the reports of suspicious salespeople could have indeed been scammers, or worse, like the pair that attacked the Buckingham woman.
“I can’t rule it out,” he said.
Hopwood suggested that residents approached by door-to-door salespeople make sure to see a permit. He also said to get a good look at the license plate and vehicle the people are using. And, if something seems wrong, call police.

What a completely bogus article that intermixes information to make a story. My point is quoted from the article:
“The suspicious homeowners said that the people told them they were college students selling dishwashing liquid to raise funds.
It appears, however, that those incidents could have been legitimate, as a Kirby vacuum franchise recently began operating in Albemarle, said Lt. Todd Hopwood of the Albemarle police.“
My point is: Kirby, is a vacuum cleaner, as everyone knows, and only sells vacuum cleaners and vacuum cleaner relted supplies. So how does this relate to “dishwashing liquid”? Extremely poor correlation of information by the writer(s) and editor of this article, and a totaly inaccurate conclusion drawn from these two tidbits of informtation.
This article, along with the local TV news article that identified a license plate, are totally, and erroneously, FALSE, in tying this event to Kirby, and it’s associates.
The facts are this: Kirby is doing a sales campaign in the Charlottesville area. The facts are, a representative of the vacuum cleaner company owns a vehicle similar to that described by the woman attacked, that was used by the assalants. The FACTS are, the local polie did act quickly, and identified all similar vehicles to the one described by the victim. The FACTS are, the police identified that a vehicle, similar in description to the one used by the assalants, was also owned by a represntatives of the vacuum cleaner company. The FACTS are, the license plate of the vehicle owned by the vacuum cleaner representative wa identified by the loice search of similar vehicles. The FACTS are the local TV station ERRONEOUSY ACCUSED the owner of this vehicle as being the assalant. A suspect? BUT, THE FACT is; the vehicle listed by the local TV station was CLEARED by police in ANY involvement in this assault.
The FACTS are also that, the facts and fiction got intermixed by the press, to make a story headline, and scare the heck out of it’s viewers and readers.
The FACTS are, the vacuum cleaner representatives, in this “similar” vehicle”, were STOPPED by police, questioned, and RELEASED as they WERE TOTALLY INNOCENT, and NOT, in any way, involved in this hideous crime.
Has the press and media printed a correction, and an apology to the innocent people detained for this false reporting? NO! Very poor reporting, very poor verification of FACTS.
We know all of the above is FACT, because our son was a passenger in this “similar” vehicle, and is an employee of the vacuum cleaner company. He was detained, brought in for questioning, and now has to make a living in this profession that has been tarnished by totally inaccurate and down right poor reporting of conjecture versus FACTS. The damage has been done by the media, to innocnet, law-abiding citizens of this country. Their employment has been doomed; their pure reputation has been tarnished, all over poor, no, very poor, reporting by reporters, who cannot keep facts separated from fiction. And editors, looking to make ratings and sales.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the victim of this stabbing. Our sincere hopes are too that the public, law enforcement, and media, working together with FACTS, catch, convict, and put away in prison, the attacher(s). But please, do not rush to judgement and convey or publish false information about innocent people on the basis of fear. Or, make a story, and a living. These false publications, in events like this, tarnish people for LIFE. Be fair, but firm. And, ACCURATE.
Respectfully,
John and Jo Ann L.
