A 19-year-old Afton man charged in connection with the Interstate 64 shootings in March will have his case heard by a grand jury next month.

Slade A. Woodson waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday morning in Albemarle County General District Court, and a judge certified the charges to a grand jury. Commonwealth’s Attorney Denise Lunsford said the county’s grand jury is scheduled to meet June 2.

Woodson and 16-year-old Bran-don Dawson were charged with 15 felonies, including charges involv-ing firearms and malicious wound-ing. Dawson pleaded guilty to eight of those counts May 7, and will face sentencing May 28 in Albemarle Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Woodson is being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail in Verona.
