Emergency systems test scheduled today
The University of Virginia will test its emergency notification systems between 2:30 and 3 p.m. today.
The siren/public address system, text message and e-mail alerts, and emergency Web page will all be activated during that time.
The LCD screens at various on-Grounds locations will not be included in the test.
The systems will be monitored during the test. Once data is gathered, an “all clear” will sound.
At roughly 2:30 p.m. the UVa commun-ity should hear a siren followed by a public address message stating, “This is a test of the UVa emergency notification system. This is a test.”
By 3 p.m. the siren will sound with three blasts followed by a message, “This concludes the test of the UVa emergency notification system.”
Text messaging and e-mail will also display an “all clear” message.

Thanks for the informative post. I work for an emergency notification company, and we always stress to administrators that an emergency notification software service is only one part of an overall emergency plan. It’s great to see that the University of Virginia has successfully incorporated multiple systems to notify students in the event of an emergency.
