Days after a car crash that killed a 14-year-old Palmyra girl, three teenagers remain at the University of Virginia Medical Center, the Virginia State Police said Sunday.

The state police still are investigating Thursday night’s crash on Nahor Manor Road in Fluvanna County. First Sgt. J.E. Mitchell said authorities are waiting to present their information to the commonwealth’s attorney.

State police have said 18-year-old Matthew B. Rigsby was driving a 1997 Saab around 8:30 p.m. when the car hit a fence, mailboxes and two trees. Rigsby, 15-year-old Morgan Winter and 17-year-old Dylan Saylor were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after the crash. Caitlyn M. Conn, 14, was killed in the accident.
State police said they believe only Rigsby was wearing a seatbelt. Authorities believe speed was a factor in the accident.

Our prayers go out to the young people involved in this avoidable tragedy, and especially to the friends and family of Caitlyn.
