Lake Monticello issues boil advisory

Many Lake Monticello residents were without water Wednesday after a valve malfunctioned during maintenance work on the gated community’s system.

The malfunction caused the system to lose most of its water pressure. The system was down from the early morning until about 1 p.m.

Once the system came back online, however, residents were urged to boil their water by the Virginia Department of Health, the Thomas Jefferson Health Department and Aqua Virginia, which operates the water system.

According to the boil advisory, the low water pressure could have introduced contaminants into the system.

“It affected a good part of the community,” said Peggy Alexander, spokeswoman for the Fluvanna County community’s homeowners association.
