A man who allegedly fired a gun toward deputies was shot in the arm Tuesday evening, according to Greene County Sheriff J. Scott Haas.
At about 5:45 p.m., deputies responded to a house in the 11000 block of Spotswood Trail where a man was reportedly shooting a gun from a porch, the sheriff said.
The suspect fired toward the deputies and nearby residences, Hass said. Several people witnessed the shootings, but no one was injured.
Then, the man “advanced on the deputies,” who warned him to put down the weapon, the sheriff said. At that point, the man allegedly raised the gun and a deputy shot him in the arm. No deputies were hurt.
The suspect, whose name was not released by The Daily Progress’ deadline Tuesday, was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Police closed one lane of eastbound U.S. 33 for several hours during the Tuesday night incident.
Police declined to say who placed the 911 call, whether anyone else was in the house at the time or if the man lived there.
State Police are handling the investigation, Haas said.
