A former Greene County deputy was found guilty Friday of selling a firearm to a convicted felon after a short trial.
Leftery N. “Terry” Tsouroutis, 38, faces up to six months in jail on the charge. Authorities accused Tsouroutis of giving a convicted felon a gun around 2000 as partial payment for work done on his Jeep. Witnesses testified Friday that Tsouroutis had done a background check on the man and told him his record didn’t show his previous felonies.
On March 18, Tsouroutis was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison. He was convicted of transporting a teenager across state lines to have sex with her in 2002 - a violation of the federal Mann Act - and for making false statements to FBI agents in 2007.
Tsouroutis will be sentenced on the gun charge June 4 in Greene Circuit Court. Defense attorney Lloyd Snook said his client remains free on bond until the Federal Bureau of Prisons determines where he should report to start his prison sentence.
